Highway robbery

The other day I picked my mother in law up from the airport. I arrived about 20 minutes early as she tends to panic if someone isn’t there when she arrives.
When I got to the gate I found that her flight was delayed by half an hour. By the time we had fetched her bags and got back to the car park I had been parked for a little over an hour.
On putting the parking ticket into the machine we both stood open mouthed and aghast at the $18.00 fee.
$18.00 for an hours parking! The man behind us said with a wry grin
“welcome to Melbourne”

And they are now fining people for parking along the freeway on grass verges outside the airport. In the past whenever I was picking people up we’d have a ’system’ going. Once they were through the gates, they’d phone me, I’d drive the one kilometre and pick them up at the bus station there. No parking costs, quick and easy. Seems like this is now becoming harder and harder.

That is a bit steep isn’t it? Nothing is free anymore.

    Good Grief!!

We always pick up people from the drop off zone (it moves much faster than the arrivals one!) But it does rely on people being confident manouvering around the airport and finding their luggage carousel, etc themselves.

Makes you appreciate the airport in Perth!! Much easier to drive there too.

That’s what comes from privatisation! If you read the ticket you get when you go in it says the MINIMUM charge is for 4 hours. So much for short term parking!!!!!!!!

Now a week later - having spent 7 days in close quarters with my mother in law, $18.00 seems a very small price indeed to make sure she actually gets on the plane.
I suppose all things are relative.
